COVID? Yes, it’s still a thing…

At the time this post was published I have continued my streak of not testing positive, catching the flu, or being sick of any kind… just ‘sick’ of work!

Since traveling to Tulum in August 2020, a few things have changed in my life:

  • a new job
  • a new apartment
  • a heavier weight class (96kg) in weightlifting

Even at 10 years into my career, upward mobility is something I never truly focused on (just give me more money!). I pride myself in having a ‘doer’ mentality, an expert juggler of sorts, where I can easily switch between high-level and granular thinking for projects. “Title agnostic” if you will. But now in a leadership position, it’s incredible how different things are when I’m approached or how others with similar titles introduce themselves: name-function, name-title-function, name-title-department only, or permutations thereof. I get you have ‘x’ title but does that mean I should respect you more or much less? There are varying levels of humility built into those vocal deliveries, so I have to back off on painting shade over first impressions.

Moving out the cave!

My previous apartment was great. A two story building with businesses occupying the first floor with off-street parking in the back. Once working from home became normal it soon transformed into a dark cave or maybe it was one when I first moved in. The 490 square foot space and lack of proper sunlight was getting to me. But with the job change I thought, “why not move?” So I did and it was only down the street, almost double the space, with a washer and dryer, and a plenty of sunlight. Winner.

New digs!

Weightlifting is still a great pillar of my life. I had great strides in technique and strength since COVID created a decision making filter for most people to use. Being social on the weekends took a back seat in 2021. While I have a higher daily average bodyweight, I do not feel like it’s impacting my life per se, but it has made buying clothes difficult at my height and shape and decreased my stamina for hikes or prolonged walks in general. Nothing new really.

Masters Weightlifting National Championships 2022

Thank you for making it this far into my post. I want to contribute more to this platform now that I’m going through some existential things in my life. Maybe, as a reader, you’ll want to share what’s changed for you since COVID started. Next, I will most definitely give an update on some travel I’ve completed since my Tulum trip. Until next time…
