I went to my first all-inclusive this year during my company’s annual summer shut down.
While this free week of vacation sounds great on paper, it’s really delaying my actual holiday planning each year by providing relief pre-defined up front if that makes sense. It eliminates my affinity for haphazard trips. (Last minute IS fun!)
Since I didn’t plan ahead, my international options were overshadowed by the summer Olympics international European fares. I would shy not to a return trip to Spain or hang around some cities outside Amsterdam. Everything was expensive from SFO – even for reward travel.
So I committed to the resort life in Mexico.
Thanks to some advice from friends and of course Reddit, I landed on Atelier Playa Mujeres. Four nights in a four year old property outside the HZ in Cancun.
I was spoiled.
I was also there alone. Maybe 1 of 3 other singles? I didn’t care much to socialize though because I was too busy ordering mezcal on the rocks and octopus tacos on the beach. And when it was too hot, room service was amazing while the AC was blasting.
Would I do something like it again?
I think the best thing to answer first is if I had I good time. Short answer: yes. Don’t believe the negative things people say about AI’s. But also, if you speak any bit of Spanish it goes a long way.
Maybe I got lucky on the first try and now the bar is too high.
It would have been better with another person.
One thing I was great about was not using my fucking phone! It was just me and relaxation (and all that booze). I’m evolving.
